Tank Pictures
I went CRAZY! I'm breaking the rules, pushing the boundaries, testing the limit!!! Yes that is a half black angel and a pearl gourami eating a TetraMin. There's two cory cats under them. Aren't they cute I almost got a pic of the knife coming out of the log but alas he caught me before I could snap the pic. If the cory cats would just not die all would be well and happy in the tank.

thanks I just said all that stuff about the boundaries cause several people specifically told me not to put an angel and a gourami together. But I everything I saw (I work at the store I bought them from) showed me that they were not aggressive at all. So Im taking a chance on them together but they've been together for a week now and they dont seem to mind eachother at all. They're practically sharing a dinner plate

Alot of how different fish will or won't get along is what order they go in the tank. If you have an Angel for 3 months lets say...and then you introduce a Gourami.....it's possible that there will be issues. Nothing about fishkeeping is an absolute.....if your 2 ciclids are getting along we are happy for you and your tank.

yep, that's why I decided to give it a gander cause nothing is absolute and they seemed like they would be fine together especially cause the angel is just a baby and pearl gourami's are the most peaceful in the gourami family I believe. Hope my post didnt sound like an attack on the people who made the recommendations, I meant it to be funny. I've been known not to be the funniest person in the world though.
On another note I think the next guys Im going to add are going to be a school of glass cats instead of Congo Tetras just cause I keep seeing them nip at each other in the store, the glass cats really school together which I love, I'm confident they would get along with everyone in the tank, and I read that they would really enjoy the power head and the frozen daphnia that I randomly got for free. Only down side is thier not colorful like the Congos but oh well, Pearl will continue to be the beauty (she likes it that way)
I'll post pics when I get them. And a pic of the knife coming out of his tree whenever I can catch it, he is so cool!

Hi Trio
I love your driftwood.. what a wonderful shape!
As far as fish behavior in the tanks at stores and at home, they can act quite differently. Mostly due to the stress that is present in the stores and that there are a lot of fish in those tanks where as they do not usually make territories. Always exceptions to the rule tho.
They really do not have time to become aggrssive as they would in a home aquarium where they settle down and stake out territories.
I really hope that your angel fish and gourami get along in the tank, they both are great fish to have!

Oh Im so happy! My tank looks great! I spent way to much money and got lots of stuff I ripped the fake plants out of my fancy white and black rock and replaced them with java fern. I also rubber banded two mats of fresh bright green java moss (mine was brown and dying, I think because of the way I tried to plant it) mats to the truck of my tree. I planted a new green wendtii crypt on the other side of the tank and cut off some hornwort and used it to replace another fake plant in the back. I finally got the moon light I wanted now I just need to find a way to hide the zip ties I used to hold it to the canopy. ANNNDDDDD I got a African Dwarf Frog for my 10 gallon with the betta and so far so well. Master Betta flared at him a bit but then got bored and didnt bother him anymore. I also put a little bronze crypt plant in there. ohhhh fishy shopping sprees are so funnnn!!!

I also have some worries though too. My nitrates are creeping up they are somewhere between 10 and 20 now. None of my plants except the java moss I removed appear to be dieing and I am doing weekly water changes. I am wondering if the way I have started doing water changes is a bad idea. Because my farlowella seems to freak out when I cut off the filters I have started just taking out 5 gallons (via gravel vacuuming, so Im taking out dirty water) then replacing it, then taking out another 5 and replacing it. I am always taking out dirty water but maybe I should do more if I going to do it that way... oh so complicated... at least it seems to be working. The farlowella has not spazed out since I started doing it.

Im so happy! I got my new light on! It was so fun to put it all together even though I messed up twice and had to redo it I got to use tin snips (one reflector was too long to fit in the place I needed it) It looks really good now, here's a pic of the "final" canopy before I realized I messed up, then realized a mess up again.
ok all you smarty pants, what were the two mistakes I made?
A hint, my canopy door is about 2/3's of the canopy top.
