I was wondering would 5 Tinfoils be ok in a 55 gallon until this spring when I am getting a 90 gallon? These are actually Red Tailed Tinfoils ( Barbonymus Altus) not the true Tinfoil. They only max out at 8 inches rather then 14. They will be smaller right now probably about 4 or 5 inches, so will this be ok?

I don't know how fast they grow, but I think they should be ok. Just get that bigger tank asap.

If you're getting the 90 gallon tank soon, and the Barbs are still growing (are not yet adults), then they should be OK in a 55 gallon tank until then. Though, of course, the sooner you move them to the 90 gallon tank, the better. By the way, congrats on getting the new 90 gallon tank!

Its been proven false that they dont get bigger than 8". Judging by research I have 2 redtails and 1 tinfoil judging by this definition

"The Red-tail Tinfoil Barb is also missing black submarginal lines on the caudal fin."

My red tails have outpaced my tinfoil i in growth since day 1 and are still growing. I cant measure them because they dont like the measuring tape, but there somewhere around 7-8". They get just as big.
