Re: tiger barbs
I know the fish are exciting !!! I am always impatient too, but in the back of my mind I know that impatience can hurt fish, so I refrain from doing what I should not. It's better and safer to wait, than to rush and have disastrous results, right? So, just get a test kit for now, wait for the tank to get cycled, and only then can you start getting fish. And of course not all at once, but very few at a time. You add fish gradually. And remember not to overstock. The general rule is to have one inch of fish per one gallon of water, and it's better for the fish to have one inch of fish per 2 gallons of water. And it's not true that cycling a tank "always" takes 2 weeks. It usually takes much longer, at least a month. The time of cycling varies from tank to tank, but more or less it takes about a month. The best way to know if your tank is fully cycled is to get a test kit. A tank is cycled if ammonia is 0, nitrite is 0, and nitrate is 0.
