Urgently Need Help with TB's *EDITED*

I no longer have the 20g tank. Instead im getting a 4ft tank which i think is about 38g? Correct me if wrong 48x12x15.

I was thinking of making it maybe a tiger barb only tank or tiger barb + maybe a few loaches. Most likely JUST tiger barbs

I was wondering how many Id be able to fit in an empty 4ft tank?

Hi Welcome to FishLore
I don't have Tiger Barbs but other members do, I'm sure they'll be able to answer your questions more thoroughly.
Here's our Tiger Barb profile
I would think you could fit 6-7. Since they prefer a school, this is a good number.
From what I read, that should help with fin nipping also.
Of course, that depends on each fish's personality.

I've never heard of them harming plants and hiding places are usually a good idea in case some one needs a break.
Sand or gravel would be a matter of your preference, I think.

I'm sure you'll hear from others who have more personal experience.
We'd love to see some pics when the tank is up and running.
Best of luck.

Hello Itbo and Welcome to Fish Lore. If you're going to have only the barbs I may go as high 10 as long as you keep up with your regular water changes I think you would be fine. If you want other species in the tank then lower the # by a few. Yes, with the dimensions you gave you have a 38g tank. I would suggest adding them a few at a time so that you don't throw the tank into a mini cycle with high levels of ammonia. If you do decide to add them all at once, be prepared for some daily water changes just in case.
Keep us updated

Well I had about 5 Tiger barbs as juveniles. They did well together. I think that you can probably put ten twelve in your tank. You might want to get bigger loaches cause the tiger barbs might gang up on the loaches. Another fast siming fish like a couple of giant danios also would work. Update us please!

I agree with ken about only adding a few at a time.
Adding all at once will probably send your tank into a mini cycle.
