Adding more tiger barbs?

I currently have 3 green tiger barbs and a paradise fish in my 10 gallon tank. I love my barbs they are so much fun to watch! However, I've read that the tiger barbs should be in groups of 5+ but also that a 10 gallon might be too small for all them. Given that they are so small at this point (less than 1/2 inch?), I'm thinking of adding 2 more tiger barbs and in a couple years, I will purchase and transfer to a new tank.

That being said, if I added two regular tiger barbs with my 3 green ones, will they all get along? The 3 green seem to get along great now so I don't want to mess with that. Also, how would I add the barbs? Do I need to take all the barbs out and reintroduce them or can I just add the new guys? I know they form a heirarcy so i wasn't sure if adding new ones would disrupt the heirarchy or automatically make the new guys targets.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks so much!

the regular barbs and the green barbs should have no problem schooling together. you would definitely want to remove the barbs that are already in the tank, rearrange things a bit, and then add everyone together.

however, IMO a 10 gallon is too small for 6 tiger barbs even if they are still juveniles right now. you will probably see a lot of aggression from them (more than is usual) in that small of a space. they will already been pretty much full grown in a couple years, so if you were to get the barbs now i wouldnt wait any longer than three or four months to upgrade to at least a 20 gallon, 29 would be preferable.

good luck
