Tiger barb and algae feeders

I only have 6 more weeks to decide what to do with my new tank shuffle and I've decided for sure my 55gal is going to become a tiger barb species tank, but I still would like to have some sort of algae feeder and bottom feeder to keep everything nice and clean. So..... here come the questions.

1. Other posts say that BN is a bad choice and that leaves either oto's or tiger oto's (I have both) for algae duty and are either a good choice or should I just stick with a scrub brush for manual cleaning

2. Would a school of cory's work for cleanup? I wouldnt want anything much bigger because I don't want them to take away from the species tank, just be there for cleanup

3. How many tigers should I add? I read they're 3" fish so I was thinking if nothing else makes the cut, then 15 of them for a nice sized school. If the cories or oto's are allowed, I would of course reduce the number appropriately.

I'm fine with going with only tigers and doing a little more manual cleaning if that would be best.

why would a bn be bad? tigers dont usually bother bottom feeders and most plecs can handle their nipping with their tough hides..with proper schooling amounts, they dont bother many if they are happy

I don't know why they'd be bad, another post in the tiger barb thread said they were, I have no prior knowledge. Maybe I misunderstood the post, I did read a lot of them in the wee hours of the morning. So you think A BN would be a good match then?

You've sold me Shawnie, I'll pick up a BN. You think one is good or should I put in more than that?

I'll of course post some pics when the time comes for the new tank set-up... luckily I still have 6 more weeks so plenty of time to research the other tank, at least I have a final plan for the 55gal... wouldnt want a tank to go to waste
