My granddad recently lost 7 of his 15 tiger barbs in his 100g tank for an unexplained reason.

The other tank mates include a Bristle nose pleco, 3 clown loaches, 2 dwarf gouramis, 2 angel fish and 6 rainbows. We know this is over stocked but my granddad does 3 times weekly water changes
The other tank mates are fine except the 2 angels and the remaining tiger babrs are gasping a little bit.

He did a 20gallon water change as soon as he found out.

If any one has any suggestions about what caused the death of the tiger barbs would be greatful.

I'm really sorry that your grandfather lost fish.

With them gasping, I wonder if he's gone into a mini cycle.
Have you tested the water? What are the readings?

I've asked him to check but havent got a call back yet. Ill update with reading once he phones back

I had 3 tiger barbs and a red tailed shark in a 30 gal. tank. the tiger barbs looked great but died suddenly after about 3 days ther were no marks on the tiger barbs. I got 3 new ones and ther doing fine.

Might have died due to a bacteria disease, usually infects other barbs by nipping on them and soon it spreads throughout evryone, it can take up to 5-7 months until it attacks and then you dead barbs.
