Tiger Barb Nip Other Tiger Barbs?

Does anyone know if Tiger Barbs are known to nip their own kind? Because I woke up this morning to find that one my my Tiger Barb's top back fin was gone (excuse my lack of technical names )

to further explain which fin, it is the one in the VERY back, and the top of it is gone.. so now the poor guy is always struggling to stay horizontal, he tends to float with his head down if he stops flapping his fins to stay in proper position.

sorry your fish is sick but Yes they will if they dont have enough space to determine whose the leader and whose the followers...in a 5.5 gallon tank with that many tiger barbs, they cant get outta eachothers way ..plus the other fish make it a bit cramped

Yes, if they aren't given a large enough school or enough space. 6 in a 5.5 gallon are likely to be very edgy, especially with their other tankmates.

I'll back this up because when I started up my tank everytime my barbs died down to having a group of < 5 my leader would fin nip all day. One of the barbs is now missing half his tail but he still looks healthy and active. I got 5 in there now, and they shoal a lot more and even battle it out for leader (so fun to watch I have a video clip ill post later). I put this is 3 other threads, the more barbs the better. There is no limit to how many should be in a school, I've gotten comments from people with 50g+ tanks with 40+ tiger barbs in it and it looks absolutely georgous. Plus with all the barbs together they form their own gangs and are very exciting, and they don't bother the other species at all. When you have that many it's too much for them to even consider the other fishes.

Here's the pic:
