Dividing Tank

Ok. So after one of my tiger barbs died due to a fatal attack by another barb, I went to go buy two more. I have a total of six barbs. One thing that I noticed after the death of my barb was that one of the other barbs seemed to swim alone, away from the group. I think he might miss the other barb for some reason and so he swims alone. Just recently the other barbs have been picking on him and they've nipped his fins. Now I don't want the same thing to happen to this barb and I was wondering how I can divide the tank quickly before I lose another barb. I've went to my local LFS but they don't have large enough dividers. Is there a way were I can make my own net? I don't really want to set up another tank for just one barb. Please help. Thanks.

Not sure how to make a large divider, but one thing you could try would be to pull the five belligerent barbs out of the tank for an hour or two, maybe change some things around the tank. Keep the five separate if you can (two in one bucket, two in another, and one in a third, if you have that many buckets). If you can afford to do so, keep them in a well-heated room so the water temp doesn't drop too far. Then reintroduce them, and see if the new surroundings make them feel like the "new guys". They might school up with the last one.
I'm not positive. Just basing this on what some people do with mollies.

I don't know but that sounds like it might just temporarly solve the issue. I also want to separate them so the other barb can grow his fins back. He's been nipped, but not badly.

What about a sheet of nylon mesh (like a window screen) and suction cups? I remember seeing someone doing it (here or google..can't remember). But then you can just cut the mesh to size and use the suction cups to hold in place. Good luck and hope they get better.

Nylon mesh would be good. Window screen (which has metal) would be bad. The metal could leech into the water.
