Dying Tiger Barb!!!!

Help! I've just noticed that one of my tiger barb's pectoral fins have been chewed off and most of his flesh is gone! I can see bone! I came to the conclusion that it must have been the biggest barb in the tank that did this. Now my dying barb is in a little cave decor lying on the floor. Should I put him in a quarantine tank that has not cycled Or do I have to wait to cycle the tank so he can have good water quality in order for him to heal
I have a 15 gallon I can use.

Any other wounds?

I would say, you are the only person who truly knows how bad it is.

You have to decide to either try to save it, in that case hospital tank, medicine, and lots of water changes. OR humanely euthanize the fish.....this does present a problem for some, but if you are looking at bone, it may be more cruel to try to save this fish.

Either way, you are the one to decide, and no one here will criticize your decision.

well i think it's pretty bad... it looks like the flesh underneath his gills has been chomped off by a bigger fish...

I'm thinking that i might try and put it in a hospital tank...
but in his condition... I really have no idea if he's going to make it...

HI TB
Im so sorry to hear about your TB's injury. If it were my fish in this situation, I would put it into another container asap. At least if it does pass from its injuries, it will not get attacked and bit while it cant defend itself. I have had to do this before and chose to put my fish in a quiet place away from any aggressors who will try and attack a sick fish and make it worse than it already is.
Its so sad... if you had access to some clove oil and thought that your fish is beyond healing and in pain, I would suggest putting it down. There were threads on Euthanasia here maybe someone can link them for you?

well what will the clove oil do? will it calmly put him down?
I already put him in my old 15 gallon tank and he's not very active...
i'll try to get some pictures up if i can right now..

It is said that the clove oil will calm him down and put him to sleep, whereas then you add more clove oil at that point.
I would suggest clicking on 'new posts' and see the topic: Poll: Preferred Euthanasia Method.... that is there... and read up on the advise and see what you think.

Poor thing. I'm so sorry he is hurt.
If you're going to wait it out a bit, give him something to hide in to help relieve some stress.
It's hard to say what one would do in a situation until you are in it.
Good luck.

Bad News...
I woke up today and found my tiger barb dead under the rock.
I guess he just died because of his wounds.
I took a closer look and i was able to see his organs.
It was a deep wound.

But I went to go get two new barbs.
One is an albino.

I'm sorry you lost him, he did sound badly wounded.
I am glad you moved him, he didn't have to worry about the other fish picking on him while he was feeling poorly.

well my other tiger barbs are doing well. And the two new ones are really energetic. It's just a shame that I had to lose my other barb. But all is well in my tank now. =]
