| 2.5 gallon micro-community? is there such possible setup? a tank devoted to tiny less-than-one-inch-long fish living happily together in only 2.5 gallons of water? any of the microrasboras or dwarf livebearers? |

| Personally I wouldn't put fish in it but you sure could house some really neat inverts. Red Crystal shrimp, amano shrimp, maybe even a bamboo shrimp or two. Just an idea. Some salties are making peco reef tanks out of them. Housing some soft corals. Way cool! |

| I keep a single betta in there currently. So a tank this small is generally unsuitable for fish including fish from the genus Microrasbora? I saw some at the LFS. Interesting and rather small. |

| You think too much about miniature aquatic life. |

I love the celestial pearl danios, but they are so darn expensive, almost $7.00 a fish! and they are only half an inch long
hmmmm... I'll see what I can find in RE: to small microfish. If not, I'll resort to getting another betta |

| do you mean these rasboras? They're great little fish, they only get to 1" and are very active. I'm a nano tank fan myself. it's like having the whole world in a small space.
Have you given up on the SW setup by the way? |

| YES! Those rasboras are also one of my favorite FW nano fish secondly after the Celestial Pearl Danios. I would love to have a few of them in my 2.5 gallon in the future. Could I do it?
@ spider_pig,
Not entirely, but its a tossup between a SW nano or a FW biotope, I'm leaning towards freshwater at the moment, as a saltwater setup is looking to be a little more expensive than I thought... |

I agree, a saltwater is a lot more equipment. A biotope sounds interesting. I tried to do a land/water brackish biotope, but it didn't work out. you need a larger tank to make those work.
post pics if you decide to do the micro community |

| Oh, man, celestial pearl danios are so pretty. Rasboras are a lot of fun, too! Unfortunately, I've never done a tank that small so I can't advise, but whatever you do, I can't wait to see the pics! |

| I'm going to try out the micro community in a few months. I have one of my older bettas in that tank, and he's not doing so good health-wise . I'll need something to take my mind off losing him, so I'm going for this.
And I might be getting another tank later next year, my friend is upgrading from a 15 gallon to a 30 gallon when she moves to her new house, and she says I'll be the first she comes to when she gets it emptied and cleaned. |

| if you have any live bearers you could put the fry in there. thats what i have in my daughters room. she has some trumpet snails and about 10 fry. not their permanent home of course. when they get too big i will give her new fry |

| I was thinking maybe turn it into a grow out tank, but lately, my platies have been giving birth and the majority of fry have managed to not get eaten, so that might be a waste of a tank in a way. |

| No actually. But I don't like the idea of ordering fish onlineto my doorstep (but then again, isn't that how i get the pet store fish?). Maybe I should try that
my tank is empty now, so time to consider this whole micro-community deal! |
