Doing a quick search since I don't know much about cichlids...

Quote:
North America: originally restricted to the lower Rio Grande drainage in Texas, USA and south to northeastern Mexico. Introduced on Edwards Plateau of central Texas and central peninsular Florida, USA, and Verde River basin (La Media Luna region), Mexico (Ref. 36377).

one of the pictures also states landings in Bracketville, TX, Pinto Creek...if that means anything to you.

I snorkel in the San Marcos River in Texas. There are many Rio Grande Cichlids (that's what people in Texas call them) everywhere in the river. There are also bass, garr, billions of plecos (thanks to aquarists), Tilapia (imported), and these beautiful schools of Mexican tetras. The cichlids are quite stunning.

This is an old thread but there are many cichlids to be found in Texas, sadly it is much like Florida not as bad though.... yet.

However the Texas cichlid (Herichthys Cyanoguttatus) is the only cichlid native to the United States.
