Is it normal for 2 lemon tetras to group together all the time and leave the other one out of the group or is the pair a mating pair and trying to do a breeding ritual? What is the way to tell the difference between male and female lemon tetras?

I guess it depends. Sometimes they may exclude one another from the group. It happens with my fish sometimes and then other days they are all in a group. They may be breeding, though, in which case when they get done, they will probably all school up again. do they normally school together?

I was wondering the same thing. I have three tetras newly introduced. They usually hang out together but at times, I see two together and one seems to be left out, by him/herself. Cant tell at this point if its the same two either. Wish I could tell the sex of the tetras as well, and hopefully someone out there can give us a clue! I think with introducing three more, will solve the ' One is a lonely number'.. issue! Thats what Im going to do.

Shortly after writing this post, I got three more and they all school together and look happy since they swim along side with my big angel fish.

thats great news Tom! i wil also be adding angels, but not til I get the water situation under control.

Well... My neon tetras do the same thing. Being a newbie and all all i can say is that if no aggression is being shown and the fish is eating they're really is nothing wrong.
