My Tetras don't get along!
I need more help! I'm new to the fish world, so I'm learning as I go.
I'm slowly building up my tank; which is what I've been told to do. I started with 4 sarpae tetras, who all seem to get along; sure they chance each other periodically, but they're happy enough.
Approximately 2-3 weeks later I added 4 black skirt tetras, they all seem to on well enough; no real problems. One had his gill flap ripped off, but he's fine and no other problems have come up.
After another 2 weeks or so (last night), I added 6 neon tetras...that didn't go so well. Just after I introduced the neons to the tank, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw one of the neons with hs head inside the mouth of a black skirt tetra. I tapped the side of the tank and the skirt released the neon, but I've found the skirts and sarpaes extremely aggressive toward the neons. I immediately turned off the light and closed the blinds to darken the room and that seem to calm the fish down. I left the light off and the blinds closed until 10am this morning. After I turned the light on and did the count I found I'm missing 1 neon, the rest are all ok and I watched the tank for about an hour just making sure they were all swimming peacefully together. All seems well at the moment, but I'm a little confused.
Aren't these community fish? At least that what the people at the fish store told me. Should I get rid of the sarpaes and skirts? Do I have too many of them?
