| orange tetras? Hello, one of my mom's friends has some tetra's she is ready to flush down the toilet b/c she doesn't want to take care of them anymore. I offered to take them b/c I dont want them to die, but I havent seen them yet, and all I know is that they are orange. Does anybody know what kind of tetras are orange? |

| I have glowlight tetras and altho they have a red strip like a neon tetra I wouldn't call them orange. |

| Until you see them it will be hard to determine what they are They could be Von Rio Tetras also.

| Their probably Glowlight Tetras! Maybe your mom's friend is talking about the orange stripe on their body? Because glowlight tetras have that stripe. |

| Okay, I got the fish this morning. They aren't glowlites, but they're probobly serpaes. They have an orangish/pink body(its kinda clear) and there's a black spot on the sides. their fins are bright orange and black. They look like(shape) the fish sqrlyshrly1 posted. About 2-2.5 inches in length currently. They fit the description for serpaes, but aren't serpae fins white and black?
I hope they arent agressive towards my other fish, they needed to be put in a tank and my 10g wasnt set up yet. So they're in my 29g with 6 platies, 2 albino cory cats, an amano shrimp, and a neon tetra. Last edited by momo9700; June 23rd, 2008 at 04:17 PM.

| My serpae have a bit of white, not a whole lot. Mine never nipped. I have the short finned, the long finned are supposed to be worse at nipping. Last edited by Lucy; June 23rd, 2008 at 05:42 PM.

| thanks, also, how do you sex them? I'm set up for breeding my platies, and thought if i have male and female serpaes i might try my hand at breeding them. |

| when breeding serpae tetras, its best to purchase them in a group. this way when they're "in the mood" they'll be able to select their own mate instead of being forced to mate with the only other availble member. its especially chanllenging when the other is of the same gender. aside from that, the serpae is a great novice breeder and the fry are very easy to raise. |

| well, i already have some, and i wanted to know if there was a way for me to tell which ones are girls and guys. if they're all one gender then i can leave that idea on it's own until i get another tank. |

| most likely the male is slimmer than the female around the middle. |

| okay, i think i have all males. they're pretty thin.
EDIT: of coarse, they could just be a bit starved, the person i got them from didn't want them at all and was ready to flush them, so they could have been neglected. |
