Pink Tetra ~ Happy ending

My daughter was given a 10 gallon tank with a cory, a khuli, an African Butterfly, and a pink tetra. She gave me all but the khuli, which I put in my 20gallon tank.

I know tetras are schooling fish so I figured I'd get companions for "Pinkie".

I saw tetras like the pink one at the lfs and they were called "mixed fruit tetras" which I know are dyed. It is so cruel! I refused to buy them.

I went to a more reliable lfs and got 2 companions for "Pinkie" which were labeled "gold skirt tetras". They look just like him except they are golden.

I think they may be what some people are calling "white skirt tetras" because the skirt really does look more white than gold.

They have established territories in my 20 gallon. "Pinkie" seems to be the most aggressive even though it is the smallest.

Good job for passing on the dyed fish!

It sounds like little Pinky is being territorial, being she was there first. You can try moving some things around or giving her a time out if she gets really bad.

Good luck.

I was wondering if I should get a few more skirts. I'm not close to overcrowding, but I like my fishies to have open space.

White skirts are schooling fish, so if you have room, they would feel more secure with some buddies.
If I'm not mistaken Pinkie is actually a white skirt, but dyed, as you know.
