Hi val,
they are very pretty fish! Looking at the shape, they can be in the Rasbora family, but which ones, I do not know. I looked through my Fish bible for photos of them but didnt find any. But the body shape is just like that of rasboras which are part of the Cyprinids family. That can be a start to goggle and see if you can come up with any photos?
Good luck my friend...

If they turn out to be rasboras, they were incorrectly labelled. She called them tetras, and believe me I have been into all of my books, and googling and on every fish sale sight.!!! They were $4.49 each..which was kinda expensive given their small little selves, so they weren't just an ordinary little kind.

I am pretty sure it is not a green tiger barb, I wouldn't hve bought barbs to put in with my tetras, and I have seen those, they are beautiful, but much larger. These might be actually shorter than a cardinal tetra, but thicker, and flat.
Hey I am so slow............dah ...I just emailed the LFS after phoning her and she is going to try to find the label. I took the last 3.trust me. Not that any of it makes any difference, but I like to know what I have,.....LOL
As ever, thanks for all the help!!

I can't really tell but they don't appear to have an adipose fin. There are very few Tetras that don't have an adipose fin sooo if they don't have one then good chances are they aren't tetras (big breath)

The mystery is solved. These fish were sold to me as Emperor Tetras:
http://fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=10683
Today I had an email from the owner, who sent me this link to what they really are...Rasbora!!!! http://www.ekkwill.com/blacrashet.html
So Kate, you called it correctly....you are so very smart!! And a lump on the head to mother of the LFS owner Make it 2.
No matter, they are adorable little guys, and I guess they are kinda similar!!!!
Thanks everyone for you help!

Hi Val
Im so glad the mystery is solved. Its so perplexing to not know what type of fish you have in the tank. Im glad that you know now and with that, you can know about their needs and all.
It was the body shape to me that gave it away. Got confused with the tetra label tho...like you and had no idea what kind of tetra they could be.
But Im glad that its all cleared up. They are cute lil fish for sure!
Good luck with them.
