Red Colored Tetra

All,

I'm trying to locate a Tetra that is similar to the Lemon Tetra: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemon_tetra

It's has the same body and all as a Lemon Tetra, but it has a red body. Not sure if the yellow on the lemon is different on the red one that I've seen though.

Hi MudHog,
the Bloodfin tetra has the same body as the lemon tetra and is a peaceful schoaler. Its not all red, but has some red in the tail and lower body. Another is the Rathbun's bloodfin. Hope that helps?

Got to look at them again today.

Top fin is jet black. The bottom fins have white tips on them. Their bodies are yellowish down the center and fading darker to red toward the top and bottom of the body.

Looks exactly shape wise like the Lemon Tetras in the tank.

I looked at the Bloodfin Tetra and I didn't see the black fin and/or white tips as these.

Hi Mudhog
I know that it is a tetra you are searching for, but by your description..
black fins... yellow part of the front of the body.. turning to red in the back, sounds like a sunset platy. But.. as I said, I know you are looking for this particular colored tetra.. I have been searching myself for you, and have not come across it yet.

Thanks Kate. We will figure it out sooner or later.

I pulled up a picture of the sunset platy and that's 100% not it. I still think it's a tetra as it has the exact same body as the Lemon Tetra, just the different colors. The center might be more orange than yellow, but it fades to red to the top and to the bottom of the body.

I will email my mother in law and see if she can try and get a picture for me. If not, I'll have to bring a camera next time I go there.

Edit: Kate, I can't tell for sure yet, but it looks like a Serpae Tetra. I will try and get a picture of the fish and post for viewing.

It has been confirmed, Serpae Tetra is the species my father-in-law has. I was at Wal-Mart this evening and went look at their tanks. Seen the ones I was trying to figure out and they were labeled Serpae Tetra.
