test kits nitrate alkaline amonia

all along i knew about pH,
but i know nothing about nitrate, amonia,and alkaline,
how much are the test kits usually?
what are the usuall readings?
i need to know for the sake of my fish!

Oh no! You really must know these things! Your fish may die! I believe the nitrogen cycle page explains fairly well. Alkaline refers to pH. The more alkaline your water is, the higher your pH. The more Acidic your water is, the lower your pH.

Your ammonia should be zero, it can be fatal to your fish. That kit will test for ammonia.

o got the omonia and ph constant reading one by seachem,
stupid me i thought the sensor was the protective film so i ripped it of,
now i need another amonia test thingy,
man they are expensive
