Finally got the Master Tester!

Finally picked up the master tester yesterday and did a complete test of all. The results are :
PH: 6.4
NitrIte: 0
NitrAte:0
Ammonia: 2.0 (was 4.0 when first tested and with a 20% water change immediatly dropped to just less than 2.0)
I will continue with the water changes til the ammonia drops to 0. It really scared me to see it so high!!
All the fish are doing fine tho. *

In the 29g tank:
2 dalmation mollies (unknown) One alot larger, seems to grow over nite! Wish I could tell the sex of these.
4 platy ( two pair)
1 dwarf gourami (female)
new additons:
3 red minor tetra.
All get along fine with each other! *

Re: Finally got the Master Tester!

That's an impressive ammonia reading. Normally, that would probably be high enough to do in some fish. I suspect the reason it did not was because your pH is low (which is fine...no worries), which means you are getting ammonium rather than ammonia produced in your tank. Your tank will still cycle, so keep doing what you are doing! In fact, just to be safe, you should probably do additional water changes to get that reading down below 1.0.

Re: Finally got the Master Tester!

Hi there,
yes, thank goodness for the low PH reading. I did read up on that helps. Just happens to be what my water (well) PH is at, and I dont want to change the PH with chemicals. Its fine for the fish. I will continue to do 25% water changes daily and see if that helps the problem.
thanks, kate

Re: Finally got the Master Tester!

Did a water test on the 10g betta tank.
Ammonia: 1.0
NitrAte: 5.0
NitrIte: 0.50
The 10g tank is stil cycling. The NitrIte level is very high and also the NitrAte is. So just did over a 50% water change. And then will follow up with 20% water changes til it cycles. The betta is doing fine.

Re: Finally got the Master Tester!

After buying the API master tester at petsmart, it cost me 31.00 including the tax. But found that on the online site of Petsmart it was offered at 20.00
I wrote the online store a message and asked why the discrepency in the prices. I also told them how much i appreciate the help I get at the store, which is true. They have been so nice. Well I got a email back and wanted to share it. This is the same store that replaced my cracked 29g that I bought from ANOTHER store for no charge! When the store I got it from wouldnt even give me a replacement! They say its their policy. Im not hyping a store and certaintly am not affilated with it in anyway. Just thought Id pass along that there are some good folks out there that want to do the right thing by their customers!
here is what he wrote back:

First let me start by saying that I am glad to hear that you are a loyal Petsmart customer. I believe that we are all Pet Parents. Being a new store manager to Petsmart but not new to retail I had to ask a lot of questions in order to reply to your call. We always price match our competitors offers and you and I found out sometimes our own on line products. Just bring in your receipt if your have it and see any cashier and they will happily take care of price matching and giving you the difference. If you do not have the receipt we will also happily take care of you. I found out that pricing does differ in Petsmart just like in many other retailers. Prices differ some times by town and may differ on line. There are many reasons for this and product mix also differs from store to store. An example of this is that Plymouth and Hyannis Petsmarts have different product mixes in some catogories. I am glad that you have received good customer service in our pet care department. Your situation does not happen often but I would always check on line first and then visit our store per personal assistance.
Please feel free to call me in you have any concerns at our Hyannis Petsmart store. Again we will be happy to price match your purchase when ever come in just see any cashier for assistance or any manager. Thank you so much for your business and the next time you are in the store ask if I am in so I can say hi.
Thank you so much

I happen to have to go there tomorrow and will bring my slip for credit towards the dividers I need. I will also approach them in asking if they can start carrying bio spira !!
