Auto testers

Do those auto-testers work? They are devices that stay in the tank to help keep readings on ammonia and pH. Seachem makes them. They are being sold through Dr's Foster and Smith.

Ive heard good and bad....some rely on them totally and have had major crashes ... I think as long as you keep a second eye on things with a proper test kit periodically, they would be ok ....but as far as total reliability, no I wouldnt trust them

I used these testers briefly during my fishless cycle. They seemed to work, but for me, they were hard to read. The color scale makes it difficult to distinguish between the different readings..

Good morning. I use the ammonia auto tester you've mentioned in both my tanks and have used them for the past couple of years. They seem to be accurate, at least the one's I have. Too, the ammonia level is detected earlier or at a lower level on these compared to the liquid test. They are by SeaChem. However, I also use the liquid tests as well for my back up. It gives me peace of mind to have two options in catching ammonia issues early. I'm going to try the pH and see how well it does.

It states that they are good for 1 year but I like to replace mine every 6 months.
Ken

This link is for the one I use:

This link is for the one I'm going to purchase for pH:

The pH may be hard to read I agree but the ammonia one, for me, is easy to read. I know some members have color issues.

Thanks everyone. I just might try them, along with the test kits as well.
