ammonia submersible test strip

I just got a submersible ammonia test strip that you keep in the water for a few weeks. It is dark colored green on the top which means toxic and the rest is the yellowish green color meaning the water is okay. The dark green is only a smudge on the top corner, is the entire strip supposed to change color? Is mine faulty? Fish all seem fine and healthy. I have a 42 gal with 8 mollies and a cory catfish. One of the mollies just had babies a couple of days ago and they're doing fine as well.

I can't answer your question but test strips can be wrong most of the time. API Liquid test kits give a better accurate reading.

Seachem produces a cheap yet state of the science ammonia alert device for use in both FW and SW. Reliability up to 12 months.

They have a pH device but so far is intended for FW only -relability within 3 to 6 months.

Great as alarm devices.
