I would like to now how often should i be testing my water in my tank.
i purchased a 5 in 1 test strip kit. it checks for pH, alkalinity, hardness, nitrite and nitrate.

I am sorry to say that the strips do not have a reputation for being the most accurate. If you are cycling the tank you could test every day to give yourself an idea of the progress of how the cycle process is doing.

Yes strip tests are not very accurate. Also you need an ammonia test.
In an established tank once a week is fine.
