API master test kit

I got a problem and I am wondering if I am doing something wrong. While I am checking nitrite, my instructions are 5 ml water 5 drops of solution and shake for 5 seconds. When I shake it always leaks out the top. Same with the nitrate test. I have to shake for a full min. That is the one that I am most worried about. I shake and a good ammount of liquid leaks out of the top. I feel that I am putting the cap on tight. I even tried to twist a bit to get it to sit right. but no matter it leaks. Does this happen to anyone else or am I doing something wrong?

thanks!

HI Guppy..
yes, that happens to me as well. Not with all the tubes, but most of them. I thought that maybe by washing them in real hot water may have distorted the caps a bit. I dont know what to say.. other than maybe buying more tubes for your kit. But i just try to hold it down good enough and hope that I dont loose too much solution.

I decided to look around to see if I could just buy some cheap test tubes with better stoppers/caps, maybe with a small rack. I'd thought I'd found the perfect solution with these but when I got them, it turns out when they say "large" they mean *large*. They're workable, but 5ml of water in one works out to just over 1/2". But at least the caps are water-tight. I just use a medical syringe to exactly measure 5ml (or 5cc on the syringe). One nice thing is I can set up the rack with multiple test tubes at once and blast through all the tests without a lot of running back and forth.

At some point I may make another attempt at getting some smaller test tubes with stoppers/caps, but oddly this stuff is *really* hard to find in small quantities (I don't really need 1000 test tubes, thanks).

Brad.
