well im cycling a 30 gallon tank its been about 2 1/2 or 3 weeks. and i would test bout every other day..my amiona was climbing..i used a filter cartlige from my 55 gallong since there the same size exspect my 55 gallons bio wheel has two bio wheel and fliter slots . but anyways my ammonia was climbing then going down a a little . i never had my nitrites over 0, tonight my ammonia was at .50 ppm nitrites 0 and my nitrates 5.0 ppm. should i be registering nitrates if i never saw a nitrite spike

you can see the nitrate for a number of reasons. but you are still in the beginning stages and need to wait about 4 to 6 weeks from start to finish of a cycle longer with fish.

yeah i was pretty sure about that but i didnt know you would pick up nitrate without even having you tank cycled. and you say 4 to 6 weeks id like to dissagree my 55 gallon cycled in 2 weeks the ammoina nitritre and nitrate suceffuly completed there cycle in that time.. had that tank for ever but my mom wanted to get he wall painted behinde it beforei set it up cuase like we have been decorating our house the past year or so and all my tanks are in the family room upstairs. and its pretty much the only room not decorated..but yeah cuaes she has a big enough job moving my other tanks to paint we have to just paint around my 55 gallon.but anyways thanks for your response i wouldnt of put fih in yet anyways it didnt see right
