Is this right?

I've had my API test kit a while now so i bought a new set but i'm still using the old ones until i've finished them, but with the old ones I'm getting results that theres no NitrAtes in the water. Is this right? I should have at least some trace of NitrAtes shouldn't I? Could they just be old and not giving the correct results? Do you think I should test using the new ones to see if i get different results?

BTW, It tests the same for both my tanks.

thanks

Gwenz

P.S. - sorry for all the questions.

Re: Is this right?

No I don't have live plants, just silk ones.

Hmm, maybe there isn't anything wrong. Its just I wasn't expecting it to be 0. To be honest I hadn't done a proper water change in a while ( I slacked a bit ) so I was expecting it to be a bit high, but maybe not.

Re: Is this right?

Are you shaking the heck out of the second bottle before using it? I mean bang it on the table a few times and really vigorously shake the bottle for at least 30 seconds before adding it to the test tube. If you don't then you will get a 0 reading.

Re: Is this right?

Hmm maybe I should try shaking it harder. I did shake it, but not for like 30seconds. I'll give it a try next time i test the tanks. thanks
