| Maintaining the water temp of an aquarium is important for several reasons. The fish thrive in ideal conditions, which include temperature. Some fish are cold water, and some fish are warm water, then many can be kept comfortable in a community and adapt to a steady moderate temp. The temp also allows the bacteria in the aquarium to multiply to reduce wastes. If the temp drops or rises too rapidly,it can cause stress and disease to set in.
Tetra's,mollies and guppies would be a community environment (any mixture is really, except for species specific aquariums) A good temp would be between 23-25c,. When you put your heater in,make sure it is away from the filter inlet and the outlet flow, and any aeration stones, wands, etc. The current can turn on the heater from the sensors picking up cooler water. This will cause the temp to fluctuate and/or over heat.
There's a lot of good ones out there, but here are a few brands.
Azoo Titanium (the one I use)
Marineland Stealth (one of the better ones)
Eheim Jagger
Hagen Tronic
Rena
Hydro Theo
Tetra Whisper
A good heater of about 300 watts is good for your size aquarium. I would get 2 and set them at the same temp. If 1 stops, the other 1 will keep the temp stable.2 will also maintain a more constant temp than just 1. |
