How to lower water temperature??

Hey Guys!

if you check my aquarium info, I have a 15 gallon aquarium, currently home to 3 Cherry Barbs and 3 Glowlight Tetras. My aquarium is placed between my house entrance door and the windows. My windows are always opened during the day to let air in and out. I live in Malaysia, which is currently a hot country.

My water temperature stated in my thermometer is 30 to 32 degrees celcius. Cherry Barbs and Glowlight Tetras are suitable in temperatures at about 25 to 28 degrees celcius, right? So how do I lower the water temperature? I've tried putting ice cubes several times but the temperature unfortunately went up again! What should I do?

im not sure how much an aquarium chiller goes for, but if its worth the money, it might do the trick for you.

Also, ive never been to Malaysia, so im not sure what kind of fish stores you have there, but im sure you could find a chiller.

OH. I've seen a few here before around 30 us dollars for a simple one, which is the cheapest I could find in my area. In Malaysia, the local aquarium stores aren't as good as the ones in the U.S as I was told, so yeah. That's how the stores are like in Malaysia. Hope you come to Malaysia some time, happening place to be especially in the city, KL.

Hi peacemaker!
Down here, in Puerto Rico, we have high temps as well (around 28 most of the year). I have figured out that most of the fish you buy at local stores are already used to local high temperature.
Be carefull with using ice to chill water temp (which I tried a few times in the past as well) because the temperature fluctuations could be a more serious issue than a constant high.

At least we do not have much ICH problems with thermometers marking so high, lol
best wishes,
Miguel

you could try evaporative cooling. Take the lid off and have a fan blowing across the top. You could also drape a towel over the side with the end in the water (drawing water up like a candle wick).

However, it won't work very well if it's very humid. I have no idea how humid Malaysia is, so you'll have to be the judge of that.

Thanks for the info Miguel! I don't use ice or try to chill the water... I find it very hard and I've seen most aquariums in my friend's houses or stores and their water temperatures are almost the same as mine. Using water chillers can be useful but quite expensive here and I don't have much cash to afford it. Anyways, thanks!

I've tried using a fan but I can't keep it there forever...
Here in Malaysia, it's almost like a hot desert in the US. But at least it rains everyday and it makes the temperature a bit cooling. But when it doesn't rain, you'll find some people rushing for air-conditions! lol
