Help!!! Tank temp??

Wow, I thought this was going to be easy... Not so far!!! I don't remember my mother having this much trouble when she set up a tank... she ended up with fish tanks every where.. I guess my question now is what should the temperature be in my tank?? I have lost 4 fish so far!!! It isn't getting any better... Help...

Re: Help!!! Tank temp??

Hello again,
Well I haven't lost any fish today!!! that is a good thing.. I vacuumed last night and gave fresh water to replace.. i thought my snail was dead but I guess he was sleeping...

I have a question about my filter.. I told a friend I had this filter that the guy at the fish store said was the bes to get and she said they saw me coming.. It is something with a bio-wheel... When my mother had fish tanks they had cotton and charcoal. So is this a good filter or what!!! My water is cloudy and I haven't had it clear yet. I don't have a test kit yet so I don't know all that stuff.
Any way I think it is getting better, I sure hope so!!!!

Re: Help!!! Tank temp??

Please get your test kit ASAP, and let us know what your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings are. We also need to know what fish you have in your tank, how long has it been set up, and how big is the tanks. We can't really help you until we know this information.

Re: Help!!! Tank temp??

the best way to find the right temp is research what temp the fish likes eg.books internet and it will tell you the minamum temp and the highest find that out about all the fish and find a temp that is inbatwen all of the fishes highest and lowest and that will be better for them all and you should not have any deths cawsed by temp gud luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Help!!! Tank temp??

Sounds like with a new filter you are starting your cycle process all over again. The bio-wheel filters are all I use in my main tanks as they came with them and I love them because they hold the bacteria once they get established and I can change the rest of the filter when it needs without disturbing the bacteria at all. it just takes a while 4-6 weeks to establish unless you have another established filter running in the tank at the same time to hurry the process along. Then even it can take 3 weeks or a little longer. (but your fish will be able to tolerate it because there are established bacteria taking care of the nitrate and nitrite and ammonia) the only thing you will be waiting for is the bacteria to build up on the new filter gravel, and decorations. I did this on my 3 gallon tank and it worked like a dream. My fish hardly knew they were being cycled. I had one day of nitrites of 0.25 and 2 days of ammonia at 0.25 then it was gone. The easiest mini cycle I could have had. I still have the second filter running in the 3 gallon because I am going to have one little fish coming to replace Nip and it will need to be quarantined since I asked my dealer not to do it for me. (he usually keeps them for me and quarantines them if possible so I can put them in the tank - also so he can ship them together) This way it will be ready for the quarantine tank, (bucket) for him when he gets here.

Maybe your Mom has an extra filter she can spare now so you can hurry a cycle without too much hassle.

This of course depends on your readings, maybe the readings are all perfect and this is not the problem. One persons' opinion.
