Re: urgent :swordtail pls help
Hi there. I would switch medications to something anti-fungal. The terramycin or whatever you are using being anti-biotic in nature won't do anything against a fungal infection which is what it sounds like your poor swordtail has. In humans as well as fish, anti-bacterials actually antagonize a fungal infection. Fungus and bacteria are all around us and our environment, pets, etc. They work together and keep each other in check. When one gets out of control and starts growing too much, it will be made worse by treating it with the wrong med. To paint a slightly gross example, If one were to get an athletes foot infection and tried to put an anti-biotic cream on it, it would get worse because whatever bacteria living on the skin that keeps the fungus under control would be killed off even more allowing the fungus to spread and grow worse even easier. This is especially true of any internal type fungal infections. I will just let your imagination go from there. A little too gross and personal to spell out. Try to get the terramycin out of the water first with fresh carbon in your filter for a night and then add the anti-fungal. The medications will usually mention if they are for fungal infections or not. Just read the directions carefully, I don't know what all fish you have but some if they are small like neon tetras or if they are labyrinth fish like Betta's or gouramis, can be adversely affected by them or could be easily overdosed. Good Luck!!!
