male swordtail hiding

I just got some new fish today. I started out with 1 m.sword tail, 2 flying foxes, 1 albino ruby shark, 1 redtail shark, 3 neon tetras, 1 silver molly and 1 m. fancy guppy. These guys together have been living perfectly together no problems. About a week ago I did a 25% water change when I vacumed the gravel. Since then the levels have seemed fine and everything was ok.
Today I just bought a heater because it has begun to get cold in Delaware and then I introduced a newt, 1 m. platy and 3 f. platies. Since I put them in the tank the m. swordtail has just been hiding in one of my ornaments and won't come out. I didn't observe any interaction between him and any other of the males and he looks healthy and swimming, but just afraid to come out.
Could it be he got punked out of the top level by the new male platy or could it be the water levels?

Welcome!
First off, the 2 sharks together is spelling disaster.
Second, what type of newt did you add??
Did you cycle your tank? What are your water parameters?
