Breeding Overload

Ok this is probably dumb but I'm going to ask anyways.

Problem 1: I have about 4 prego fish that I don't know how long have been pregnant. I got them from a friend, she has no idea about swords and wanted to get rid of them so I said I'd take them as I wanted to try my hand at breeding them.

So I put the one with the darkest spot in my breeder net....I'll get back to that one later. So I divided my 55g tank (don't read my fish that I have in my aquariums because things have been moved around and i didn't update) in a section for the two males and the 8 females and the other half is for the potential fry and that is where my breeder net is. Anyways I bought some breeding grass for the side with fish just in case I miss a birth. So the question is: is the grass supposed to be floating up base side up or should it be on the bottom in the gravel? I thought about dividing the tank again and making a section for just the pregos...is this a bad Idea?

Problem 2: I can't seem to ever tell if my pineapple sword is prego or not. How can you tell. Also after they give birth do the still stay kinda chubby? My one has a couple of black dots at the spot where its sapposed to be a black triangle. Pregnant? I mean she's chubby but IDK. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks

swordtails will ''miscarry'' through the stress of moving so they may not be any more, can you post a photo of the ones you think are pregnant please

I think you should put the breeder grass on the gravel.

thanks for all the help I have tweaked my set up and have had 3 fish deliver successfully and another on the way. After getting 2 surprises in a row i manages to get the 3rd female in the breeder net about 6 hrs before she gave birth. I got up and there they were about 30 of them

I don't know about swords, but my guppy fry always go to the top. This is where I put my breeding grass because they were becoming easy snacks for the adults.
