Re: Wheres my male swordtails? PLEASE HELP!

I looked in my books and the only information I could find seemed to indicate that they are peaceable fish and that the males may argue between themselves, but there is no record in any of my information of females harming the males. It does however, as an aside bit of infromation, say that females may change sexes later in their lives and become males.

I hope you can find your fish. I am sorry I am unable to provide the information as you have asked, but there just isn't any record of that action.

Welcome to our forum. I hope your experience here is a pleasant one. We do try to help each other and there are people here who have a lot of fish keeping knowledge. Perhaps one of them can better answer your question as I really have not had personal experience with this species of fish.

Did he maybe jump out? Or could he be dead under an ornament?

No I don't think he has jumped out, someone would have told me. Or I would have seen him. And I have lifted up everything in the tank to make sure he wasn't under anything.

But still no where to be seen. I don't think and other fish would have eaten his either, I've only got guppies and now 1 female swordtail.

This is very bazaar!

Re: Wheres my male swordtails? PLEASE HELP!

I resently lost one of my Zebra Danios. I looked everywhere for him, and couldn't find him. H ejust sort of vanished. To this day he's still not found, and I doubt I'll find him now.

I'm sorry to hear you've lost your fish.

I hope you find them.

Re: Wheres my male swordtails? PLEASE HELP!

Thanks, and I'm sorry that you can't find yours either.

It's a very frustrating situation.

But the weired thing is, it only happens with my male swordtails. I only have one female and everytime i get her a new male, he keeps dissapearing!

Thats why i was thinking she might be eating them.

Oh who knows, the world works in mysterious ways.... :

Hmmm...strange...I've got one male and one female swordtail and they get along just fine.

If you ever get another one, watch them to see if the female is chasing around the male, or something out of the ordinary is going on...

Good luck finding your fish.

Re: Wheres my male swordtails? PLEASE HELP!

Females cannot change sex, scientists proved that they are just late developing fish and that they can be either a male or female depending on the genes. They dont change sex, their just late developers. In the past they thought they could be more recent studies proved this to be false.

Re: Wheres my male swordtails? PLEASE HELP!

I recently got a swordtail female and she jumped out of the tank without my knowledge.

I casually had a look into the tank and couldn't find her.

I peeped through the tank and still couldn't find her. At last I found her at the flloor.

I put her back into the tank. She was so very battered. But she is doing well now. Back to her own self.

These creatures are so weird

Re: Wheres my male swordtails? PLEASE HELP!

From my experience with Swordtails,it depends on the difference in size between them..a female Swordtail can get agressive towards a male if he's smaller than her..most times that Love/Hate behavior is temporary,so why not try adding a male that's close in size to her and see what happens.

Re: Wheres my male swordtails? PLEASE HELP!

Thats not possible as of now, jus bcoz mine is a 7 gallon tank.

I'll have to wait for a few more months to get a new tank..

I'll love to watch the swordtails swiping around in a bigger tank..
