my swordtail is pregnant, and is currently in a breeder trap. when we first put her in, we noticed a white tissue on the bottom. she is releasing this white tissue again. what is it? is she going to have babies soon?

Unfortunately it sounds like it could be internal parasites. Tried feeding her thawed pea's, that can help with flushing them out, or of course there is medicines readily available, how is the water conditions? They could be caused by poor water conditions.

Not sure what you mean by white tissue...could you describe the symptoms in more detail and/or post a pic?

A breeder trap is probably too small for a female sword and being in one can be stressful for her...if you plan to raise the fry it would be best to set up a small tank for that purpose and put her in it along with a bunch of plants for the fry to hide in.

it doesn't look like poop. i don't know how to describe it other than she's pooping a puffy kleenex.

she's very calm in the breeder trap, acting like she does while in the tank.

Does it look like a parasite hanging out her rear end? Otherwise I have no idea. Would it be possible to post a pic of her?

it doesn't happen often, so i think getting a pic would be a challenge. this is only the second time in week and a half that its happened. it doesn't really look like a parasite, i guess? that's why i thought it was part of the birthing process.
