Brown algae

Any ideas on how to get this brown algae off my sand? I have stirred it up but the big pieces go back to the bottom. when I use a net to get it I also get my sand. Any ideas?

if the tank is new, it could be diatoms which dont look nice but do go away on their own...depending on which tank they are in, there are certain fish that eat it also ..

Patience is the main way to get rid of it. It will go away with time. Feed less and water change more. You can turn over the top layer of sand, which will sort of hide the brown and won't remove sand, but it will come back.

Patience, feed less, and water change more.

i'm with shawnie, sounds like diatoms to me. if it's been set up for less than six months or so then the diatoms are perfectly normal, if the tank has been set up for over a year then there could be a bigger problem
