my corals

so far i got a Candy Cane coral and a ricordia(sp) i was told the candy cane is high to medium light so i put it towards the middle of the tank and my ricordia is low to med. so i put it in a lite but shaded place, i read tha ricordia's are high light though? what are your guy's opinoin? and also i got alot of wattage on my lights! i have a 500watt odessy lights and light fixture with 12blue leds built in. i was told that its too much light and it'll burn up my corals if i leave it on for 12hrs a day, and to only have it on 5hours a day....what do yall think? well its day time in the tank time for feeding...

Both being photosynthetic, I would not put them in shaded area. Mid level seems OK depending on what type of bulbs. Any Metal Halides bulbs? Is there more than one switches( plugs) for lights? if so, you can use timer to increase/decrease light as day progress. Most intense lighting in mid day (4-6 hrs/day), but as I mentioned, depends on type of lighting (bulb). Acclimating corals to stonger light is good pratice also. If you have stronger lighting than LFS then have them acclimate to stronger lighting by placing them low and gradually move them upward to prefered location for each coral.

Ricordea are relatively high light mushrooms. I have mine on rocks on the sand bed in my setup directly under T5's and they're doing great. I have some candy canes about 4" above the height of the ricordea shrooms and they're splitting, so I assume they're happy as well. It's always a good idea to start corals down low and move them up over time to where you want them, or else yes, you can bleach them.

well i have 2 250watt metal halide lights and 12blue LED lights right now the ricordea placed himself on the rock mid/high in the tank and actually looks like hes starting to split already! when i got it he was almost a perfect circle and now theres another part growing from the center of it out almost another circle...kindof hard to describe..its my first reef tank so i have nooooo clue!

Ok, well ricordea don't move that I know of. Mine are all glued to rocks and haven't tried to move, so it should stay where you place it.

You may think it's a ton of light, but remember PAR drastically decreases with water depth. If it's splitting, I would leave it alone til it's done. It's also possible it just has multiple mouths.
