star polyps

Can star polyps hide? I have had mine in my tank for about two weeks now and none have shown up. In the store they were beautiful, but I'm worried they might be dead. How can I tell if they are dead or just shy? Thanks in advance!

Doesn't sound good. Mine retract when the lights are off, then come out and just wave in the current when the lights are on. What kind of lighting do you have?

Yer lighting may be the issue.

Here is a link that will hopefully help you: http://www.peteducation.com/article....+1926&aid=2375

Did you actually see them in the store? You should know what they look like. Mine open up about 5min after the lights come on and retract about 5min after the lights go off.

Usually it takes 1 week for the corals to come out when adding them to the tank. How did you acclimate them? What are your water parameters? where in the tank did you place them?

However, corals all took about 1 day to open.

Yes corals do take a while to open in a new tank. Some say it is because they need to know what is around them and if it will harm them.

do a test and post up water parameters it says on you tank profile you have nitrates of 80 if this is recent ahd still high there is one of your problems ,, when corals dont open it is normally water conditions or lighting problem ,, GSP is one of the easier corals to keep and normally under good water conditions spreads like a weed and has to be fragged frequently

I've found my Green Star Polyps to be a VERY moody coral. They'll stay alive without trouble, but distrub them to the point they don't like it and they can hide all day. Sometimes they hide all day without any reason. They will open in due time, they are probably fine.

Just make sure ther are good flow above GSP. Don't want detritus covering GSP while closed.

just a point this is not the only coral doing this so seems a bit odd more then one at same time so parameters must be out ,, and my gsp never shuts and grows like mad as soon as the lights on it jumps out and my power head blows it like mad and still don t retract
