Info On Tubastrea Corals:)

Hey all just thought i would share my knowledge and give you some info on tubastrea corals

Well Here it is:

IDENTIFICATION
Recognised by people not even remotely involved in the aquarium hobby due to its photogenic qualities and numerous appearances on nature shows and print media, the large polyp stony (LPS) Tubastrea come in a wide variety of striking colours and shapes. Most commonly seen in the orange variation, Tubastrea also displays hues of red, yellow, white, green and brown and black.

A single colony of Tubastrea is not a single organism, but a grouping of individual polyps creating a collective. The individual polyps typically extend their ring tentacles at night, when ambient light is at a minimum. This does not mean the coral can not have polyp extension during the day; this is a behaviour that the coral can be easily taught in the home aquarium. The open polyps display semi-translucent tentacles usually a light orange or yellow colour, adorned with Nematocysts or stinging cells, that help grab food and draw it into the oral opening.

I Hope This Helps You.

If you need any more info i have loads on Care, placement, Reproduction.

Just ask for more info

Matt - is this something you've written yourself or have you grabbed it from somewhere? If so we need to credit the source of the info.

As far as Tubastrea goes - I'd also add that they are not photosynthetic and need to be fed regularly in the home aquarium which can become quite the chore making sure they are getting enough to eat. But they are great to look at.
