Red Snail-What next?

Hi everyone!

Just now i saw a small red snail on my tank glass. Where did come from? Is it bad for my fish? I've read a few topics on snails and believe some are bad for fish. What brought my notice to it was my Angel fish, he was trying to "eat" it i think. What do i do about it?
Thanks

Sabi, I guess if you're trying to get rid of it you could just reach in and get it. Otherwise it might be fun to let it grow and see what happens.

yea, you could remove it to a container filled with tank water and see what happens like Jim said.

Re: Red Snail-What next?

I moved it to my 8gal to watch over him. I was just worried that he might be dangerous for the fish, reading something like that here before.
I'm finding it fascinating! His like a deep red/maroon and always moving. Where did it pop out from all of a sudden?
Will post a pic of him sometime today hopefully!

some can grow fast i think.. it's at least a possibility it came to you on the plant.. that is the most common way for snails to get into aquariums.

Re: Red Snail-What next?

Do you think the weather loach can eat aq snail? I put Loachy-boy in the 8gal and dont see the snail anymore. of course theres a chance he's somewhere i cant see...

I've another question... I'm always opening new topics so i thought i'll just ask this here ,to save a bit, as its not important!
What is the proper name for "rams"? I'm not sure whether to get Black ruby barbs or rams. And i cant find the name of that type of fish in my fish books, only the pics! Thanks
Oh what would you think is better btwn the 2?

Hi, Sabi. Yes, weather loaches will eat snails. Your red may very well have been breakfast!

Re: Red Snail-What next?

I truly wouldnt know, but i'm sure his fine...
When i gave that tank to my sis i told her to watch out for him but when she took out the stones i think he came out with it because when the stones were put back he came up floating...

Re: Red Snail-What next?

They're tough though. I got a bemused phone call from my fiance today letting me know that my snail was....goone.

While I spent the afternoon pulling reports and imagining that he had crawled into one of my shoes and died....I then got another call later lettting me know thatt he had been found.

After putting him in a bowl, the little bugger revived! I mean really? He's not even a pet, he's food for the puffer I'm going to buy!!

Try www.timstropicals.com/inventory/dwarf/raminfo.asp there are "blue", and "gold" Some call them German Blue (or Gold) Ram Chichlid's , or Mikrogeopharus ramirezi. Good luck on your choice. Rams are one of the most beautiful fish I know, but a bit sensitive, and need pristine water conditions, and very careful acclimation!
