Evil Snails From Outerspace

I just found 2 snails in my tank that I am cycling with ammonia. My readings are Ammonia 8, Nitrite 2, Nitrate >5. How in the world did they live through all of that. Well I removed them but I bet there are more evil snails hiding in their somewhere!

It's really weird. Sometimes they (and other inverts) are the most fragile things in the world, dying from a minor change in water quality. At other times, they can survive being dropped in liquid hot mag-ma. Seriously, I've heard of snails surviving more toxins than you're putting them through. Lobsters can survive being frozen.
