MTS.... do they swim?

Hello, any malayasian trumpet snail keepers around? as my MTS seem to let go of the wall/ plants and float around the top of my tank? most times i help them back to the wall and re-attach.... sometimes they get back by themself..... is that normal? i changed the water and vaccumed the other day, and they still do it... any ideas??

thx

well my larger snails(trapdoors) don't do this...... but my small pond snails, do this ALL the time they even climb glass and float, swim, and eat anything on surface, i've heard many snails like to "play" ive seen story's where people have had snails ride up on bubbles and fall back down!.... so in my view its normal. snails are AWESOME and many don't give them enough credit... as i did until i got my trapdoors <3

Hello BetaFish. I think what your snails are doing (swimming freely) is normal behavior. I now call it (as I saw in another thread) Parasnailing (teehee). I have Mystery Snails and they do it quiet often. Too, they like to float around in the current from time to time. I don't think I'd worry too much.

I agree with everyone above. Nice one from Ken, parasnailing! LOL My ramshorns also parasnail too along with the current. In fact, they actually take turns to do it. So yeah, nothing to worry about. They like parasnailing

how do you tell if your MTS are dead.... i vaccumed my tank, and did water changes.... and now they are sinking, ummm, its kind of scary.... if the water is bad, do they try to climb out? how do you revive them? is that possible?

I know that my mystery snails often sit in the same place for an extended time... and then suddenly go back to parasnailing and climbing around. If they don't move for awhile I assume they are dead. But in the past my fish eat them when they die... so I just leave the shell in as added decor.
