WHen I place egg shell in my tank for the benefit of my snails, should i be replacing it every so often? How often?
Thank you.

Hello Beth. I've just had my Mystery snails a short while. I crushed the egg shell and placed them in my filter on top of a sponge. (and of course now it's all over the tank but that's ok). I can only see bits and pieces (very few) now. So I think I'll add another very soon. I haven't read anything stating as to how often more egg shell should be put into the tank. Too, I feed my snails a slice of zucchini which is also high in calcium, a few times a week. They love it.
Ken

I'm moving your thread to the snails section. Thanks!

I will have to try the zucc again, they didnt touch it last time I tried it.
I've got the egg shell only "in half" - I could crush it and put it in a bag. One snails shell is looking not so good.
I also have not read how often to replace the egg shell.
Thank you Ken.

Beth I feed mine zucchini at night. It's rare that I find it in the morning when it hasn't been nibbled on. Then I remove it so it doesn't foul the water. If you find any more information let me know please.
Here is a link you may find interesting to read if you haven't already seen it.

I put three rinsed egg shells in a net bag (left over from some fish supplies) and placed it in the back of my tank. After two weeks, the shell has deteriorated quite a bit. I read that you just replace it after it's all dissolved. I also feed zucchini slices at night. All my fishies love it and the snails head for it as soon as I clip it down. As your snail grows, he may get growth lines, but he shouldn't have lots of crazing or any gaps between the growths. A bit of calcium powder (without flavoring or dyes) is another way to put calcium in the water, but I've never tried this.

It would seem to me that if you crushed the egg shells into a fine powder then it would speed up the process of dissolution. (more surface area) , if this is desired.
