Snails reproducing?

I found a snail (no idea what type) in my tank a couple of weeks ago after I bought some new fish. I assumed it just sneaked in the bag and just left it at that. The past couple of days Ive seen more and more tiny snails crawling about my tank. How could this be if I only had 1 snail in my tank to start off with? Is it bad to have lots of them in the tank?

It depends on what type of snails you have, you probably have pond snails, or bladder snails, if you look real hard you might be able to see tiny egg jelly like things on everything. Those types of snails only need to have one to reproduce

Snails aren't necessarily bad, and their numbers are a direct indication of whether you're overfeeding. They don't need much excess food to live on, so of there's any left over after the fish eat they'll multiply accordingly. Many common smaller species of snails are both male and female, so once they mate both will lay eggs.
