it is hard to know how he will react, after all, he is a cichlid. Cichlids react differently, since they all have different personalities, so it is hard to know. You know your krib, is he agressive towards your other fish?

Apple and Mystery snails will be fine with Kribs, Kribs really aren't that aggressive.

I would be concerned about the krib nipping the antenna and stressing your snail to death (even a mystery snail).

Is you current tank info correct? If so, I imagine the stress of an overstocked tank would certainly cause the snails to suffer the worst of it. And they may hurt other fish in the tank, like the danios and guppy, who come to investigate the eggs.

...If that's not current info, could you please update so we can provide more useful input.

Good morning. I don't have experience with kribs so I can't say how they will react to your snails. As far as the snail eggs are concerned, I just read an article that the eggs are laid above the water line so them being eaten shouldn't be an issue. I just bought 4 Mystery Snails myself Yeah!!!!

Best of luck and keep us posted please.

I believe he was concerned about the krib eggs being eaten by the snail. Kribs' eggs could hypothetically get eaten by other fish or the snail (though, krib parents would likely kill/harass any that got too close).

Yes, you're totally right, though; mystery snails lay their eggs above the water and the babies will actually drown if they get submerged. (Congrats on your new snails, Ken. )

Hello. I've merged your two threads concerning snails. Two threads on the same subject will only create confusion.
Thanks!

Any responsible LFS should label their snails. Here's a great link for info and with pictures: http://applesnail.net/ (Click on the big yellow snail pic at the top.)

Mystery snail is something of a marketing label. Generally, a mystery snail is simply an apple snail.

If you are worried about your krib being aggressive with the snails, you might consider a snail with a smaller profile, such as a nerite snail, though they are not so easy to find. They will not successfully breed in freshwater, and they are much better at cleaning the tank than apple snails.

I have never seen my krib even take notice of my snails, but each fish is different. My krib is pretty calm, but yours might not be. For instance, I've kept a betta that lived peacefully with 20 or more fish sharing his living space, and I currently have a betta that will only tolerate snails in his environment--anything else better be prepared to duke it out.
