Mystery Snail & Growth Hormones ???

I'm starting to think our golden mystery snail (Sherrif) has been injecting growth hormones. When my husband and I came back after the weekend holiday, we couldn't stop remarking on how much he's grown. I think we never noticed it until we were gone for a couple days. He's more than doubled!

His shell is more than two inches long and his body trails another half inch or so beyond that. He looks really healthy - he's always moving around the tank and his shell is *bright* solid yellow. Even his antennae are longer than they used to be! We've only had him for three weeks.

Is this a normal growth rate?

I have 6 in my outdoor pond and yes they grow at an amazing rate. Especially if they have loads to eat like in the pond. Loads of algea. you must have loads of stuff in your tank that they like. They will probably start laying eggs soon too. They will come out of the water to do that. They lay clutches of them in dry areas and then when the eggs hatch the teeny tiny babies will drop back into the water. You will hardly see them because they are so small but they grow fast. Your fish may eat them though.

We don't have any visible algae in the tank - he must take care of it before it gets a chance to show! We do give him lots of fresh veggies, like zucchini and yellow squash & he goes nuts over that!

I wish I could have a whole pond of them! They're so cool and pretty.

Yes I love them in the pond. They stay at the bottom during the day but then in the evening and night time they come up to the top edges of the pond. Sometimes the next morning I find the egg clutches stuck to the stolks of the pond plants that stick up above the water level.
