Dwarf Snail?

Very seriously considering getting a snail-only tank now. It really didn't take long for that decision. I loved the things when we had two with my grandmother's old goldfish, and I just think they're neat besides that.

Anyways, the only place that sells more than Black/brown-shelled Mystery Snails is about two hours away, so getting good information on what I could buy there is difficult, and getting them is dependant on me managing to be in the town while stock is still available. The guy who owns the place is a saltwater and pondfish expert, so he's not entirely up-to-par on his knowledge of the snails he orders.

He claims to have lots of different colored Mystery and Apple snails, though, which is good.

However he also said over the phone that he orders some kind of dwarf snail or something. Doesn't know anything about them or their proper name but says he's never seen one more than an inch in diameter, and they have stripes on their shells. Do you recognize possible species from that poor description?

Don't recognize it from that description, could be several kinds. If you go to the shop look at them real good then check at applesnail.net and see if you can ID it

Thanks. I figured the only way to make sure would be to actually go to the store, but having a general idea of what they could be provided me with some ideas of what to research just in case I get there and become smitten with them and they aren't apple snails. I doubt I'll be able to visit the store more than once in the next few months, so, having done all the possible research beforehand I could potentially walk in, take one look, and be sure if it was a maybe or a definite no.

Sounds like nerite to me too. They do not breed in freshwater and I have a few of those myself. I have not had them long and the ones I have are pretty bland compared to the ones I found after a bit more research. The nerites really come in loads of colors. I really thought some of those pictures I had seen of some of these snails were painted but they are not. Depending on the nerite they can live in freshwater, brackish, and salt water. I am looking for some of the other colors right now myself now that I know they werent handpainted. My nerites are really hard workers, they love algae, and they are clean freaks. I have seen where they have laid eggs in my freshwater tanks but they will not hatch there from what I understand. I have had them for a few months now with no sign of baby snails.
