question about snail shell

I have an onion snail that I've had for a few months - he's about 1/2 inch round. He does a great job cleaning up the algae. Today I noticed that it looks like his shell is cracked. Will this repair itself or is he going to die? Is there anything I can do?

This crack will heal itself only to a piont. Exelent water quality and a calcium supplement is recomended. (reptile calcium suppliment) And your pH should be around 7-8.

Do you know how hard your water is? (An easy way to tell is if your bathtub, sinks, and faucets have lime scale on them. If they've got lime scale, you've got hard water). If you've got hard water, there aren't any problems. If you've got soft water, you may have to add calcium to the water to give the snail something to repair its shell with. I had a snail survive with a slightly cracked shell for months before being pecked to death by my gold barbs.

What a happy ending... Barbs are such little brutes!

I have an apple who got out the tank and fell... she completely cracked and made a hole in her shell... she has been fine afterwards.

The snail master (aka Rainman) an SDS got you covered.
