Snail behavior (heads up rainman)

So recently my snail has been behaving stranger than normal. I have found him on a couple of occasions floating at the top. I pulled him out and poked at him a bit and he didnt retract back into his shell. I dropped him back into the tank and started searching for what to do and noticed he sank back down and retracted a bit. I came in last night and found him crawling on my rocks looking healthy as a horse. What would be causing this floating and lack of response? Is he in his final hours or is this just some other strange snail behavior?

A floating snail. Although often suspected to be a sign of illness, it's part of the normal behavior. Snails like to be lazy sometimes to.

I don't know... I know one of my snails started acting lazy before it died, although the other one has been acting lazy for a long time and still living... so what I'm saying is, I don't think you can tell what it is!

So... It's always good to check your water parameters. If you're still not sure.

Sometimes my pesty snails (that i've unfortunatley grown rather fond of) just... let go and float straight up to the surface. Other times they kind of look like they're crawling up something, but there's nothing there. Funny little creatures.
