| The unknown snail. Hey everyone I know that I got a snail invasion when I first got my plants and thanks to everyone's help here I know that they where Ramshorn snails. However I moved some plants over later and a snail was transfered over to the betta tank, it's not a ramshorn and it's been bothering me. Any ideas?
Thanks, |

| From the shape of the shell I'd say it's a common pond snail. (Which makes wonderful food for puffers. HINT HINT)
I love how in the last pic you can see your betta peekin outta the plants! |

| wait, wait wait... I thought pond snails were those tiny- weeny-iti-bity snails that I got in both tanks, the brown ones that look like a coil and are less than a centimeter long.... ? |

| They didn't look very big to me in the pic... maybe I was mistaken?
EDIT:
There's some pics of my pond snails in this thread. Snail questions
Maybe Red can see if they look like hers. Last edited by pinkfloydpuffer; October 27th, 2008 at 12:58 AM.

| Hmmm... He's got the same kinda shell shape tho his has white stripes/streaks in it (I can't tell if yours do) However in comparison to the largest ramshorn that I have he's bigger the shells at min a cm long. I could try for some better pics to try and give you a better sense of scale tommorrow. He's fast though (for a snail anyway) lol . |

| This is what I use for classifying the two most common species of nuisance snails. With common names this might help you: True pond snails look like this . What people call Pouch snail look like this When they mature, their shell will get the growth rings that your snail has, also their eggs are in small round clutches. Both lay eggs under water. |

| It could be a pouch snail... the spiral part of the shell isn't very long. |

| Yes they are Ramshorns, but it's hard to tell which species, they're either Planorbidae or of a species that is unknown, I have them they stay small and only grow to about 1.5 cm in Dia. Last edited by rainman; October 29th, 2008 at 11:01 AM.
