hatchet snails

I can't make the snails , stop overpopulating ! It is getting unreal, they are really everywhere ! How can I get the snails to stop breeding and get them out of the tank ! I need to get them out of the tank ! Any ideas ?

I agree with small-fish. I have read that excessive snail populations are a good indicator that you are overfeeding your fish. How big is your aquarium and what else do you have in there? There are some species of fish that LOVE to eat snails!

I don't have anything in my tank , currently because of pH issues , trying to get that under control ! think its back to where it needs to be , just need to get a new biowheel ! got wrong size yesterday !

Are you trying to cycle it? if so what are you using, they maybe feeding on that.
If you float lettuce over night in the tank they will get on that and you can remove them the next day.

So, you just have a tank full of snails? Drain it and put it in the backyard...?

Why not? That's how we moved my 110.

Of course, this method would kill your cycle if you are planning to add fish soon. How much of a hurry are you in?

There is nothing you can use to kill snails that wont harm the bacteria... but since you dont have fish, you can use copper sulfate to kill them. However you would still end up having to completely drain the tank to get the copper out. So there are not a lot of options... Carols suggestion about the lettuce would be the best and safest one. Honestly unless you want live plants then the snails wont hurt anything, they actually eat algae so thats a plus.

Having them die in your tank won't affect your PH but like anything dieing in your tank it will cause an ammonia spike.
If you haven't put anything in it what are you using to cycle the tank?
